Strange happenings at Selsley

From : Don Leatt

Having been encouraged by Phil to bring something better to Selsley I have started to notice a strange phenomenon.

Yes it appears that a Foamie will fly and land ready for another sortie, however if you have too much wood in a model it just can't avoid the only tree on the common. Now a Gentle Lady on a still day is an easy floater, and after a few good flights testing for lift the Swift also soared well, but all the time this strange influence is happening. The last flight of the day was back to the Gentle Lady and this strange effect was now at it's maximum.

As the Lady left the Tump a nice shift in wind occurred and there the Lady was sitting on the Hawthorn tree (again).

I have consulted the old sages but no record of ancient rituals were carried out near the TUMP (scaring Para gliders is too new). So could it be the ghost from one of the locals ashes then? - it appears that the ashes are thrown around the hill because the person enjoyed the peace (this is usually broken when a model lands in the tree).

So I think it is all due to magnetism.

Yes, wood magnetism works on the effect of opposites attract. So as you pass Balsa near Hawthorn the effect grows stronger until the inevitable occurs and they connect.

You have been warned.

P.S. Had to knock the tail off again to get it down but otherwise all is well.

P.P.S. I thought I would include pictures of two of my planes flying in the spare room (never seem to get in Phil's gallery for some reason).

Frocester 22nd June

Missed the BBQ but made it over to Frocester on Thursday. Good lift as ever with in the strong W breeze, landing was however a problem until Ian M provided expert local knowledge.
